There is something so very prehistoric about the Dalmatian Pelican. During the breeding season the beak takes on a vibrant red. The feathers around the head, the eyes and the amazing beak textures. They all combine to make for one of the most enjoyable bird species for portraits, especially when photographed in dappled light, highlighting and drawing the viewer straight into the eyes.
